BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Florida A&M track and field program received three weekly honors, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) announced Wednesday (April 17). Katelynn Smith and Kirk Dawkins were named track athletes of the week, while Breanna Brown-Marshall was tagged a co-field athlete of the week.
The trio were recognized for their performances at the Tom Jones Memorial Invite.
In the high jump event, Brown-Marshall placed seventh overall, achieving a mark of 1.79 meters (5'10.5"), which not only places her 21st on the NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List but also sits No. 1 within the SWAC. She came in at 23rd among 38 competitors in the long jump, with a distance of 5.66 meters (18' 7"), and also took part in the Rattlers' fastest 4x100 this season (45.58). The relay effort ranks third in the SWAC.
Smith also made waves at the invitational, recording personal records in both the 400 and 100-meter hurdles. Her outstanding performance in the 400H (58.52) ranks 45th in the nation and is the fastest time recorded in the SWAC this season. In a competitive field of 29 athletes, Smith placed third overall in the event. She also excelled in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 14th out of 27 competitors with a time of 14.14.
Dawkins also left Gainesville with a new PR. His performance in the 800-meter race (1:51.60) ranks No. 1 in the conference. He also ran in the 4x400 relay, and his team's time of 3:14.22 seconds puts them sixth in the conference.
FAMU returns to action at the East Coast Relays (April 26-27) in Jacksonville, Fla.
