Rattlers go 2-0 on day one, advanced to SWAC semifinals

ARLINGTON, Texas — Florida A&M bowling handled business, beating #4 Texas Southern (2-1) and #1 Southern (2-1) to advance to the semifinals.

The Rattlers opened up the day versus Texas Southern and beat them in the traditional match 897-857 to go up 1-0. The Tigers stayed alive, winning the baker match 954-911, but could not keep with the Rattlers in the tiebreaker as FAMU won 4-1 in head-to-head baker matches to advance.

In the second round versus Southern, the Rattlers started hot again, winning the traditional match 868-730 to take the 1-0 lead. Southern responded, taking the baker match 875-821. In the best-of-seven series, the Rattlers and Jaguars split the first four games to make the series 2-2 before the Rattlers would win a close game five 187-184 and wrap it up with a 166-145 game six win to win the mega match 2-1.

The Rattlers will play #2 Alabama State in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m. Central with a chance to secure a spot in the championship match.
