FAMU Tennis continues to dominate the SWAC, and this is how

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Florida A&M tennis has been on a winning streak in the SWAC this season. Their consistency on and off the court has made the team closer and undeniably a competitive group of young women to defeat.

Head Coach Rochelle Houston believes that hard work in practice has been the main contributor to the tennis team's successes so far. Houston stated, "They have been working on the small things to help implement them during their match time, and they just continuously keep getting better."

She also believes that the more difficult and strategic matches they competed in at the beginning of the season prepared them for their current competitors. Houston's ultimate goal this weekend as the Rattlers take on Alabama State is for the team to give their total effort, energy, and positivity to secure the win.

Rattlers' Susan Salina had several outstanding performances last weekend in Montgomery against Jackson State and Alabama A&M, as she was named SWAC Co-Player of the Week and is excited to head back. Certainly, she believes that Alabama State will be a great competitive team that will challenge her and her teammates throughout their matches. Salina stated, "We need to be ready and prepared to do our best, but I am very excited." Last weekend's positivity on the court allowed Salina to excel beyond her expectations and come into the Alabama State matches with an open mind.

Salina's doubles partner, Veronica Rodriguez, has similar feelings about returning to Montgomery. She is ecstatic about showcasing her "all-court" game by adapting to her competitor's skillsets and most importantly, winning. However, she hopes the experience allows her team to become better women and fight through their toughest challenges.

Rattlers' Sierra Sandy plans to elevate her game through preparation and confidence as she continues to bring the energy. Sandy expounded on how she has been practicing self-affirmations before every point and how they have guided her to be successful during her matches. Sandy repeatedly mentions sayings like "This is your match," "You're amazing," and "This is what you want" to keep her afloat during game time. To remain a contributor to the team's successes and SWAC rankings, she believes she must step up to the plate and trust her chemistry with her team this weekend.

The Rattlers have shown sincere gratitude for being the leading women's tennis SWAC ranking and will continue to do their best to remain on top.

They are set to play the Alabama State Hornets Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern in Montgomery, Alabama.
