Rattler Tales - Donor Spotlight: Bobby Swoope

Florida A&M University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has introduced a series called Rattler Tales. Rattler Tales is an opportunity for our department to tell our story – from the point of view of the student-athletes, coaches, administrative staff and as donors and fans.

To be featured in an addition of Rattler Tales and tell your story, click the link below to have the opportunity to be profiled as a Donor Spotlight.

Why do you give (donate to the Rattler Athletic Fund, buy season tickets) to FAMU Athletics?
Because I want to see the FAMU Athletics move forward. It's the responsible thing to do for FAMU graduates and our kids need our support.

Tell us about some of the best FAMU Athletics memories that you have.
When we made it to the Semi-Finals of the NCCA Football 1999.

The night in 1999 when we beat Southern University #3 in the nation 65-17 in an electric Bragg Stadium where the fans didn't sit down! We went on to finish 4th in FCS.

Why should others give (donate to the Rattler Athletic Fund, buy season tickets) to FAMU Athletics?
Because it's the responsibility of the Graduates of FAMU! That's what real Rattlers do, you can't hide behind your talk, you must walk the walk, so we must Strike, Strike, and Strike Again.

Additional memories/comments
Ray Long, Skip McClemore and myself put on the first Coach Willie Simmons Golf tournament in Atlanta to raise money for helmets, shoulder pads and other equipment for the football program. I was also instrumental in setting up meals and snacks for our Basketball team and Softball teams when they played in Atlanta.

I love FAMU because when I didn't have anything to eat, those old FAMU cooks at the Cafe would feed me and looked out for me. The Rattlers will Strike, Strike and Strike again.
