FAMU Introduces Brad Swope as Assistant AD/Sports Medicine

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida A&M University's new VP/Director of Athletics, Kortne Gosha, announced on Wednesday the appointment Brad Swope as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine for FAMU Athletics.
 
A native of Springboro, Ohio, Swope comes to Florida A&M after serving two years as the Associate Head Athletic Trainer at Tennessee State University (TSU). During his time as TSU, Swope worked directly with the men's basketball and track & field teams.
 
"We're excited to welcome Brad and his family to FAMU," Gosha said. "It's very clear that Brad's professional passion and care for our student-athletes will set a high standard. Brad will serve as the lead medical advisor for athletics and oversee FAMU athletics sports medicine team." 
 
Prior to joining the TSU staff, Swope worked as an athletic trainer for Welch College and Merrol Hyde Magnet School.
 
Swope has made a number of stops in his professional career including Springboro Sports Medicine and Baxter Healthcare in Ohio, as well as Baptist Hospital - Sports Medicine, Sumner Regional Medical Center, in Tennessee.
 
Swope has received several honors including the Clinical Athletic Trainer of the Year from the Tennessee Athletic Trainer's Society (TATS) in 1997, the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) 25 Year Award in 2005 and the NATA Service Award in 2016. Swope was selected as a member of the TATS Hall of Fame in 2019.
 
Swope earned a bachelor's degree in biology education/athletic training from Miami University (Ohio) in 1983 and is currently working towards his master's degree in sport administration from TSU.
