ATLANTA, Ga. –– Florida A&M baseball had its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season, and it showed as the Rattlers led the conference with eight season honors.
The Rattlers had two earn individual awards, led by head coach Jamey Shouppe being named to Co-Coach of the Year and pitcher Caleb granger named the Pitcher of the Year.
The Rattlers led the way with six players named to the All-SWAC teams as the Rattlers had Caleb Granger (pitcher) and Ty Jackson (outfielder) named to the first team, and Broedy Poppell (catcher), True Fontenot (second baseman), Adam Haidermota (third baseman), and Janmikell Bastardo (outfielder) named to the second team.
Jamey Shouppe | Co-Coach of the Year
Coach Shouppe has led the Rattlers to a SWAC East Regular Season title as the Rattlers went 22-8 and were the only 20-win team in SWAC play. Coming into the season, the Rattlers were voted to finish third in the East. Shouppe has the top-hitting team in the SWAC, as the Rattlers lead the SWAC with 377 hits in SWAC play. The Rattlers also have the most triples (18), home runs (42), and the highest slugging percentage (.546). The Rattlers also have the lowest ERA during SWAC play with a 4.11 and the best defensive fielding percentage with a .972.
Caleb Granger | Pitcher of the Year, First Team (Pitcher)
Caleb Granger dominated the SWAC this season with a 7-1 conference record, a 2.72 ERA, and 51 strikeouts. For the whole season, Granger had a 9-2 record with the 36th best ERA in the nation (2.87). Granger also had 68 strikeouts and a .262 opponent batting average. Granger also led the SWAC with a 1.27 WHIP. Granger was named SWAC Pitcher of the Week three times this season.
Ty Jackson | First Team (Outfielder)
Ty Jackson was one of the top hitters for the Rattlers this season with 45 hits during SWAC play and a. 409 batting average, .745 slugging percentage, .518 on-base percentage, 1.263 OPS, 33 RBIs, 36 runs scored, ten doubles, and seven home runs in 27 SWAC games. For the season, Jackson had a .373 batting average, .647 slugging percentage, .492 on-base percentage, 1.139 OPS, 57 hits, 41 runs, and 37 RBIs. Jackson had 18 multi-hit games and two multi-homerun games. Jackson also had a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Broedy Poppell | Second Team (Catcher)
Broedy Poppell was one of the Rattlers top hitters this season with 34 hits during SWAC play and a .333 batting average, .520 slugging percentage, .455 on-base percentage, 24 RBIs, 21 runs scored, and five home runs. For the season, Poppell had a .326 batting average, .477 slugging percentage, .440 on-base percentage, 56 hits, 37 RBIs, 29 runs scored, eight doubles, and six home runs. Poppell had 15 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games.
True Fontenot | Second Team (Second Baseman)
True Fontenot was one of the Rattlers top hitters for the Rattlers in his lone season with 41 hits during SWAC play and a .357 batting average, .461 slugging percentage, .426 on-base percentage, 33 RBIs, 28 runs scored, and three home runs. For the season, Fontenot had a .344 batting average, .450 slugging percentage, .414 on-base percentage, 55 hits, 42 RBIs, 36 runs scored, and four home runs. Fontenot also had 15 multi-hit games, including a perfect 5-5 game vs. Southern. Fontenot also had 10 multi-RBI games, including six four-RBI games. Fontenot also earned one SWAC Hitter of the Week.
Adam Haidermota | Second Team (Third Baseman)
Adam Haidermota was one of the Rattlers top hitters this season with 42 hits during SWAC play and a .331 batting average, .480 slugging percentage, .383 on-base percentage, 27 RBIs, 30 runs scored, ten doubles, and three home runs. For the season, Haidermota had a .319 batting average, .476 slugging percentage, .369 on-base percentage, 59 hits, 38 RBIs, 40 runs scored, 14 doubles, and five home runs. Haidermota had 15 multi-hit games, with two four-hit games and ten multi-RBI games.
Janmikell Bastardo | Second Team (Outfielder)
Janmikell Bastardo was one of the top hitters for the Rattlers this season with 44 hits during SWAC play and a .328 batting average, .560 slugging percentage, .389 on-base percentage, 37 runs scored, 26 RBIs, six doubles, five triples, and five home runs. For the season, Bastardo leads the team with 62 hits, 49 runs scored, and seven triples. Bastardo also drove in 33 runs and has a .310 batting average, .510 slugging percentage, and a .374 on-base percentage. Bastardo's seven triples are also sixth in the nation. Bastardo had 21 multi-hit games, 12 multi-run games, and ten multi-RBI games.
